Middle East Center, St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford, U.K.

Architectets Zaha Hadid broke ground to make a 'bridge' between historic campus buildings—will house a new library and archive, replete with stacks and reading rooms, as well as a small auditorium and café at Middle East Center of St. Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. The building is 1,200-square-meter structure.

The building covered as stainless steel and allows light to bright interior, second-floor reading room and a large expanse of frameless glass that faces the academic quad.

Other Zaha's work

St. Antony's College is focused on humanities and social sciences with a wide reference to the Arab World and its geographic adjacency. The new structure is described as "bridge". It is good idea use word 'bridge'. Humanities is study history of human. The college is a 'bridge' to connect past and present.

1.  Why did she make the structure on the college?
2. What materials did she use on the structure?
3. What do you think about this structure?
4. Why do you think she choose the shape of the structure on St.Antony's college?
5.  What common theme do you see in her works?

  1. 1. The reason why she put this 'bridge' on St Antony's college is that this college is focusing on humanities and social science which are about the history of human. So, she seems to express some connection between past and present.

    2. She used stainless steel, frameless glass on this building.

    3. I think the her concept that she put the 'modern bridge' between two exiting historic campus buildings would be one of her astonishing works. I really like the idea that 'bridge' represents some 'connection between past and present'.

4 & 5. She is one of the most famous architects who is leading modern architecture style. She usually likes to use amazing curvy shapes. This project also show us her identity.
