"They're carrying on with their lives, much the same as ever."
- Ono heard that Suichi is angry for some of his friends from Setsuko while they preprae the ceremony. After ceremony, Ono asked Suichi about his upset. The reason is that he moun his friends' brave deaths and important things is someone who sent the likes of Kenji out to die, they still lived very well and successful life, even they were so well in front of the American. He thought brave young man die for stupid thing, because there is nothing to change what they want to acheive although they scarified their lives
2. Gulf (54p)
"Possibly it ststruck him afresh that there was too much of a gulf between our families."
- After Ono met Miyaki in the his office, he didn't like Miyaki, they negotiated about Noriko's marriage, but it was delayed and problems. So Ono thought that Miyaki is very fixed and calculated personalities. Setsuko tried to persuade Ono so he say in this way to explain why Miyaki is an unsuitable person for his familiy.
